Pictured above are artisans from Mtwara, Tanzania, who employ their native skills to create useful items that would be appealing to an international market. These artisans are part of a cooperative called ADEA, which stands for African Development through Economics and the Arts. Mama Patakula quilts patchwork placemats, while Boneface Pambani paints coconut bangles, and Charles Msoga creates hand-painted cards. Orders from Elevita enable these artisans to obtain the necessities of life for themselves and their families, including food, clothing, and education.
